An oval "cul noir" faience platter from Rouen, France, dating to the mid-19th century, featuring a hand-painted panier fleuri (flower basket) in striking blue monochrome. The central motif and geometric border are set against a luminous tin-glazed surface, while the underside reveals the deep manganese glaze that gives this rustic earthenware its famous "black bottom" name. Its robust, scalloped form is a testament to the durable, farmhouse elegance once found in Normandy homes.

At Maison Amaranth, we envision this platter as the centerpiece of a wall gallery, its deep blue colour creating a beautiful depth against a lime-washed kitchen wall. It is equally at home on a plate stand in an open cabinet, where its rustic 19th-century charm brings a touch of French brocante soul into the dining room.
