Antique
An antique salt-glazed stoneware crock found in Alsace, likely originating from the Alsace region circa early 20th century. This smaller-scaled vessel features a tapered cylindrical body with two small, pulled lug handles positioned just beneath the thick rim. The exterior is adorned with a minimalist, freehand cobalt blue swirl motif, typical of everyday utilitarian wares from the period. In traditional French country kitchens, jars of this specific capacity were primarily used as pots à graisse for conserving animal fats and lard, or for storing smaller quantities of salt, preserved herbs, and condiments.

At Maison Amaranth, we love this crock on a kitchen counter filled with well-worn wooden utensils, echoing its culinary past. It also sits beautifully in a dark wooden cupboard, where the grey glaze and cobalt flourishes offer a soft contrast against the wood.
