Rocaille Revival
Antique
An a antique pair of gilded frames found in France, likely originating from France circa 1880–1900. They are a masterful example of Rococo Revival design. The style is defined by an opulent, high-relief ornamentation featuring an exquisite shell-and-leaf motif clustered elegantly at the corners, where stylized rocaille shells seamlessly blend into sweeping acanthus leaves. These elaborate corner details frame crisp linear molding, creating a beautiful balance of natural movement and classic structure. The gold finish exhibits a soft, patinated antique luster with a century of gentle oxidation that warms the intricate carvings rather than overpowering them with harsh modern brilliance. They currently house devotional prints (which are included).
